Join us for the monthly WSC Cybersecurity workshop. This is a hands-on, practical workshop where you will put into practice those things you may have read or covered in a class. This is also a great way to keep your skills fresh if you’re a veteran.

Every workshop will address a beginner and advanced topic. Beginners are encouraged to watch and learn as much as possible even though you may not have a clue. Exposure to new tools and techniques by watching will advance your learning process a lot quicker than trying to learn on your own. You will get to ask questions and see how others do it. Our advanced members are encouraged to share and help answer "noob" questions as much as possible so everyone can learn from it.

Agenda:

We’ll cover 10-15  popular tools used in IT Security (and IT). These tools are used for information gathering, scanning, vulnerability assessments, web application scanning, diagnostics, system/network monitoring, configuration parsing and more.

With each tool, we’ll run commands against live hosts/IP’s so you can see how they work. We’ll be working from Backtrack where most of these tools are already installed, otherwise you'll install them in the workshop. This will also help with your linux skills.

Requirements:

• You must bring your own laptop.
• Must be installed with Virtualbox (preferred) for Windows, Virtualbox for Mac. VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation.
• Download the Backtrack virtual machine here. Download version 5R2, Gnome, 32/64bit, VMware.

Prerequisites:

• Knowledge of basic networking and IT.
• Good attitude, willingness to learn and share.

Remote Participation

We'll be using Teamviewer for remote participation. Please have a working webcam/mic. Once registered, you’ll receive the meeting participation ID by email. Expect to join 15-30 minutes prior to test your technical configurations.
